Thermocouples are available in various compositions, each with its own color coding. Across the world, different color codes have emerged, which can lead to confusion about which thermocouple to use and cause errors. We have compiled all the necessary information in a clear table.

The table contains information on the most commonly used thermocouples (K, T, J, N, E, R, S, and B). It shows the composition, the measurement range, the expected deviation, and which thermocable or compensation cable is required. Lastly, for each thermocouple, the correct color coding is indicated according to the most well-known standards: IEC 584, DIN 43713, BS 1 843, and ANSI / MC 96.1.
